Rotary Club of Rangoon (Yangon) was founded in 1929 and later, more clubs were founded in Tha Yet Myo, Mandalay, Moulmein (Mawlamying), Taunggyi and Insein.  Due to a change in government policy, Rotary Clubs in Myanmar were closed in 1974.   

On May 14, 2014, Rotary International announced the inauguration of the Rotary Club of Yangon, Myanmar under Rotary District 3350. 

The Rotary Club of Yangon will give Myanmar people a great platform to follow the ethos of Rotary – Service Above Self, respond to the needs in the community, network with fellow business men and women, and meet Rotarians from around the world.

We meet 1st and 3rd Thursdays (Formal Meeting with a Speaker either a leading business person or a representative from an NGO – raises our members' awareness about a particular topic) from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Wyndham Grand Yangon Hotel, No. 11, Corner of Kan Yeik Thar Road & U Aung Myat Road, Yangon.

2014 to Present


JT Warring, from the Rotary Club Los Angeles (LA5), USA, started the Water for Life project which was sponsored initially by his club. In response to seeing the 2004 tsunami  He has worked with 22 private orphanages to establish water systems in all these locations, and is dedicated to providing ten more systems.

Nelson Rweel speaks about the Palaung Tea Growers & Sellers Association

On December 4, 2014, U Nelson Rweel aka U Tun Myaing provided RCY with an inspiring description of his efforts to assist the Palaung Tea Growers and Sellers Association. Faced with ongoing ethnic conflicts in Kachin State, and an increasing socio-economic burden of poppy cultivation in the remote areas, tea-growers were determined to develop a formal association and marketing programme.
